In Class Participation
To attain the maximum amount of points each day, you will need to be both present and attentive and involved in the discussions we have in the class. Involvement means asking questions, responding to questions and just contributing to the overall course discussion.
Class presentations
Readings/TV Show/Movie/Poem Presentation
One of the presentation will be a presentation of one of the readings, poem, TV show or movie. The presentation will need to be between 5-10 minutes in length. The goal of this presentation is to have a conversation about the material in this class.
Make sure you respond to the following questions:
A summary of the material.
Adopting the literary term that is covered on that day, or any other day we have covered.
What does the main villainous character do his criminal acts?
In the presence of space, tell how the things we have seen in London (in the mandatory excursions or the ones you go on your own) connect to the material.
If you are familiar with the material, tell how the material now feels since you are studying it in the UK.
Literary Term Presentation
Each day three of you will be presenting the class with a literary term assigned to you. For the presentation, you will need to define the term and apply it to the readings you have in the class, or any other readings you have come across in your reading history. While we will cover most of the terms as we discuss various aspects of the literature, I would like for you to become as an expert in the term you are assigned.
This presentation should be from 5-10 minutes in length. While I’m sure some will be shorter, I am still looking for a presentation of substance in this presentation, than length.
Mandatory Group Excursions
You will need to attend both of the group excursions, not attending them will result in no points. Once at the excursion, I do expect interaction with the group and the material covered.
Non-Mandatory Excursions
If you join in the non-mandatory excursions, you will be awarded extra credit points (3) per excursion.
Online Blog Posts
Each of you is expected to have a tumblr account and write a seven (7) blog entries based on your experience in the class, and I will give you the assignments once we reach London.
For the posts, I would like for you to do the following for each blog entry:
Post a photo that relates to your blog entry.
Response to the question asked of you.
Word count should be between 250-500 words in length.
Reading/Watching Response Papers
If you have seen the webpage, you will note that there is quite a bit of material we need to cover for this course. I am also completely aware that some material will be better reviewed by you than others. It is for this reason that I will request for only (4) four response papers for the material covered.
These response papers need to be between 250-500 words in length and will require you to respond to provide an exploration of what you read. There is no specifics here. I just want to see that you connect the readings, to the class discussions and the experience we have in London.
